While the likes of Sora have received immense attention recently, as AI evolves into more creative mediums, one area that has been relatively quiet in AI disruption is AI music. There was plenty of controversy last year, surrounded by ethical dilemmas, legal proceedings, and questions over the true ownership of sound. This has likely led to some avoiding the subject entirely.
However, hidden behind all of this is a growing community of AI platforms and enthusiasts who are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI music. The likes of Google and Meta have both created text-to-music platforms that are capable of creating some acceptable background instrumental music. Meanwhile a number of other platforms, such as Mubert, Soundful, and Boomy are able to take this a step further, producing music that is close to studio quality.
But the most impressive platform to date, is Suno, who have recently released version 3 of their platform. What sets Suno apart is its ability to write and create music with vocals as well as the instrumentals. Utilizing ChatGPT in the backend, a user can prompt Suno to create a song on any subject and whichever genre they want. From there, Suno will use ChatGPT to write the lyrics and then run the vocals and music through its platform, all within 30 seconds. The results are very impressive.
